Khalid I had the same problem, and I tried solution 1 but in step 3 I didn't find a default profile, so I added one, and its work well even without Open Control Panel, click on Default Programs icon and then click on Set your default programs link. I suggest you also give that shortcut a shortcut key, I chose Ctrl-Alt-E. It may have somehow stopped working. This sorted out my slow Explorer problems.
Whenever I tried to open a picture file using Windows Photo Viewer program, it was taking long time in opening that picture. If your Dropbox folder is on a FAT32 drive, unfortunately it is impossible to retain metadata when the file is moved or renamed. And sorry for this off topic post. Call it a DCR or a bug or whatever, but do fix this.
