Windows may boot normally for a few days, then one day it stops after the HP logo, black screen with the white _ cursor at the top left. Did a complete restore due to computer not responding at all. I tried pressing the F8 button but the laptop just keeps making this beeping noise ! I connect s-video cable from laptop to my TV and I can see my desktop on the TV screen. I had tried to restore once and it takes 3-4 hrs to complete every installation. NEVER ASK VISTA TO REPAIR IT FOR $200-400 because it might not work after wards lol ask them if you van get it repaired for free if you got hp laptop Note that I have a month or so old restore point (though I'd rather not go down that path as I have much generated data since then), and believe the Recovery nothing.
I'm not sure if there is a difference between the builds or not, but if they said it should work, then it should. If you did an upgrade instead of a clean install, you will not be able to get the pre-installed software (if there was any) unless you have that partition sitting there. What can I do about this? I appreciate this. What I did to get it working in the end was to keep pressing Ctl+Alt+Del over and over while the windows bar was loading and through into the black screen. You can download the recovery and boot CD image here. However, I am smart, in fact, in my earlier life I visited most HP facilities selling them the equipment to make their chips!
I'm glad I wrote down the folloing command some time back. %HP_RECOVERY%\minint\system32\start.exe /run where %HP_RECOVERY% is the logical drive that contains the recovery partition. i had it that when i logged into windows 7 the screen went blank and just showed a explorer window at my documents..and i had to cntrl alt del…end process of This will essentially install Windows 10 over top of itself, allowing you to keep all your installed programs, settings, and files. I got all frantic when I saw my laptop not work, but thanks to you it is!

I think the HP recovery program is not useful. if you don't have SP2 installed then you could try uninstalling SP1 to get it booting again. My laptop is Dell Inspiron 1525. before or after logging in?
