- Thanks, Microsoft.
- First, load up the Windows Vista disc in your drive and press any key to boot from the disc. 2.
- Very frustrating. But I felt better knowing I am not alone in this one.
- Typing in bootrec.exe only yielded other commands.
- How do I fix it?
- The recovery disk's only options are restore point and restore your computer to its original factor form, no command prompt.
- Maybe the user "stones863" is right about "solder joint" and "reflowing" but to me it is a "suicide mission".
- It then locked me out.
- All you have to do is load up the Recovery Console and run a simple command.

Have you tried to download and install it? If I try to do the complete system restore, it says there isn't a driver to repair at all. Anybody has an idea? Drive has disappeared before, then reappeared only to vanish again.

That ‘FIX IT' crap does NOT work if the "Upper and Lower" crap is not on your computer. Some say it's hardware, some says it's a driver problem. When I try to add "network" or "volume" to the toolbar, they are shaded and I'm unable to check those boxes. If you had more than one…….it's double trouble.

Last August ((2008) because microsoft may not have fixed or addressed the problem when 2010 gets here), had same problem as other people on this blog. If you have more than one operating system installed, fixmbr and fixboot could mess up everything. problem is, this is the second computer i've had, both hps, that experiences this problem. most individuals i talked to seemed to think it was me.
I've realized some computers like HP (windows vista/7) give the option to create a recovery disk since they don't provide you with OS disc and plus you can create only one
My Vista machine refuses to boot EVERY time. About a year ago the "cd/dvd" problem came. Or click Start Search. Why is this Dave says: 7 years ago Hey Aseem, Thanks for the tip.
What about the firmware for you drive and motherboard? (bios updates) as well as the drivers (none for opticals) after I did this then I found the software thing by MS. When a blank is inserted in the drive "my computer" changes from DVD to CD and will not identify the blank DVD.
