I managed to solve my problem (the laptop wouldn't start) by testing the memories and memory banks as suggested! Just in case. Everything tested OK. It's possible the laptop shuts down because of overheating. Source

No screen, nothing. The audio buttons etc. I was getting memory problems. Other than these, the laptop was in working condition.

Th battery does indicate that it is receiving a charge and when the laptop is in it's cradle the laptop's hard drive does show asa logical drive on the desktop.
